Come To The Labyrinth

Song: Come To The Labyrinth
Artist: S.J. Tucker
Album: Blessings

Walk between the worlds, bravely down the candle road.
The light will lead you deep into your core.
Move into the center, add your sorrow to the coals
with incense rising, steady as a prayer.
Though the heart is heavy as the dance is burning down,
may you raise your eyes and never bow your head.
We are not alone.

It only takes the tiniest of fires sometimes
to light the way you knew was aways there.
In the heart of matters, it’s the journey keeps us warm,
the lights that lead us where we are to go.
May you raise your eyes and know with every step:
we are not alone.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
walking one by one.
In the dark of Samhain, a riddle burning bright,
and candles waving down.

It only takes the tiniest of fires sometimes
to light the way you knew was always waiting for you there.
In the heart of matters, it’s the journey keeps us warm
and the incense rising steady as a prayer , steady as a prayer
May you raise your eyes and never bow your head.
Oh…May you raise your eyes and never bow your head.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
walking one by one.
In the dark of Samhain, a riddle burning bright,
and candles waving down.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
walking one by one.
In the dark of Samhain, a riddle burning bright,
and candles waving down.

We are vessels of the highest love
in a lesson, burning bright, the lesson of our lives.
When all our sorrows cauldron into one,
be reborn, this Samhain night.
When all our sorrows cauldron into one,
be reborn, this Samhain night.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
And the candles waving down.

LISTEN:

Song of Amergin

As you say each line of the Song of Amergin, stop to reflect on what it means in the natural world, and how it applies to you.

I am the wind across a deep wide lake.

I am the wave over the endless sea.

I am the stag of seven tines, racing through the woods.

I am the eagle in the afire, flying above the rocks.

I am a flash of light from the sun above, bringing heat to those below.

I am the blooming plants, bringing the sustenance and beauty.

I am a wild board, powerful and strong.

I am the salmon in the water, swimming endlessly upstream.

I am the hill where poets stroll for inspiration.

I am the head of the spear that draws blood in battle.

I am the god that puts fire in the head and honor in the heart.

Take time to reflect on each of these thoughts. How do they apply to you and your place in the natural world?

Stretch your arms, and take in a deep breath. If you’ve been sitting, stand up.  This is a warrior’s song and to really feel it’s power, you should be on your feet facing the sky.  These last few lines can be shouted at the top of your lungs if you feel like it.

Who spreads light in the gathering on the hills?

Who can tell the ages of the moon?

Who can tell the place where the sun rests?

Thing about the answers to these questions. How do they apply to you and your everyday life? How do they apply to your spiritual journey?

Take a few more minutes to think, and when you are ready, begin your trek home.

The Charge of the Goddess

(The Charge of the Goddess was found in the Gardnerian Book of Shadows written by Doreen Valiente.)

Listen to the words of the Great Mother;
she who of old was also called among men
Artemis, Astarte, Athene, Dione, Melusine,
Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Cybele, Arianrhod,
Isis, Dana, Bride
and by many other names:

Whenever ye have need of anything,
once in the month, and better it be when the moon is full,
then shall ye assemble in some secret place
and adore the spirit of me,
who am Queen of all the witches.

There shall ye assemble,
ye who are fain to learn all sorcery,
yet have not won its deepest secrets;
to these will I teach things that are yet unknown.
And ye shall be free from slavery;
and as a sign that ye be really free,
ye shall be naked in your rites;
and ye shall dance, sing, feast,
make music and love,
all in my praise.
For mine is the ecstasy of the spirit,
and mine also is joy on earth;
for my law is love unto all beings.
Keep pure your highest ideal;
strive ever towards it;
let naught stop you or turn you aside.
For mine is the secret door
which opens upon the Land of Youth,
and mine is the cup of the wine of life,
and the Cauldron of Cerridwen,
which is the Holy Grail of immortality.

I am the Gracious Goddess,
who gives the gift of joy unto the heart of man.
Upon earth, I give the knowledge of the spirit eternal;
and beyond death, I give peace and freedom
and reunion with those who have gone before.
Nor do I demand aught in sacrifice;
for behold,
I am the Mother of all living,
and my love is poured out upon the earth.

Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess;
she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven,
and whose body encircles the Universe.
I who am the beauty of the green earth,
and the white Moon among the stars,
and the mystery of the waters,
and the desire of the heart of man,
call unto thy soul.
Arise, and come unto me.
For I am the soul of nature, who gives life to the universe.
From me all things proceed,
and unto me all things must return;
and before my face, beloved of Gods and of men,
let thine innermost divine self be enfolded in the rapture of the infinite.
Let my worship be within the heart that rejoiceth;
for behold,
all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals.
And therefore let there be beauty and strength,
power and compassion, honour and humility,
mirth and reverence within you.

And thou who thinkest to seek for me,
know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not
unless thou knowest the mystery;
that if that which thou seekest
thee findest not within thee,
thou wilt never find it without thee.
For behold,
I have been with thee from the beginning;
and I am that which is attained
at the end of desire.

A Pagan Awakening

by Jeff A. Bordeaux (1989)

A new life is there,
You hear Her now,
She was always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So listen to Diana, and accept Her love.
Hoard not Her gifts : feeling, renewal, music.

A new life is there,
You see Him now,
He was always there,
and you’re forever changed.
So look to Apollo, and receive His light.
Hoard not His gifts : healing, growth, joy.
A new life is there,
Your hands reach it now,
It was always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So touch the earth, and partake of it’s sustenance.
Hoard not it’s gifts : body, green, silence.

A new life is there,
You soar with it now,
It was always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So breathe in the air and gather the wind.
Hoard not it’s gifts : mind, dreams, empathy.

A new life is there,
You’re warmed by it now,
It was always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So build the flame and brave it’s heat.
Hoard not it’s gifts : spirit, will, energy.

A new life is there,
You flow with it now,
It was always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So study the ocean and follow it’s tides.
Hoard not it’s gifts : self, courage, sorrow.

A new life is there,
You’re one with them now,
They were always there,
and You’re forever changed.
So take Their gifts and return them threefold.
Share this magic : friendship, love, trust.

The Vacation

“The Vacation” by Anthony deMello
(from the book Wellsprings: A Book of Spiritual Exercises)

I imagine I retire to a lonely place
to give myself the gift of solitude,
for solitude is a time when I see things as they are.

What are the little things in life
that lack of solitude has magnified unduly?

What are the really big things
that I find too little time for?

Solitude is the time to make decisions.
What decisions do I need to make
or reconsider
at this juncture of my life?

I now make a decision
about the kind of day today shall be.

Will it be a day of doing?
I list the things I really want to do today.

Will it also be a day of being?
–no effort to achieve,
to get things done,
to gather or possess,
but just to be?
My life will not bear fruit
unless I learn the art of lying fallow,
the art of “wasting” time creatively.

So I decide what time to give to play,
to purposeless and unproductive interests,
to silence, intimacy, rest.
And I ask myself what I shall taste today.
and touch
and smell
and listen to
and see

Sensuous Elements Guided Meditation

Close your eyes and relax. Begin breathing slowly and deeply, letting your rib cage fill completely. With each breath in, feel it becoming full with life. As you breathe in, pull in pure, white, clean energy. Let it spread slowly out from your lungs, emanating throughout your entire body. As you breathe out, breathe out all the tension and scattered energies of your day. With each breath in, breathe in relaxation. With each breath out, breathe out stress. Breathe in trust. Breathe out fear. Breathe in love. With each breath, fill yourself with the divine energy that connects us all.
