The Wild is Rising

(Sue Mcgowan)

The wild is rising up through the twilight
The wild is rising up through the twilight
Hearts and bodies open to know, the magic of the Earth
Hearts and bodies open to be the healing of the Earth

Animal Spirits

Animal spirits
Come to me now.
Vanishing spirits
Come live in me.
When i run
Let me run like the deer.
When i fight
Let me fight like a mama bear
When i hide
Let me hide like a fox.
When i strike
Let me strike like a snake

Why Does the Sun Shine?

(Songwriters: HY ZARET, LOU SINGER. Performed by They Might Be Giants)

The sun is mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees
Yo ho it’s hot, the sun is not a place where we could live
But here on earth there’d be no life without the light it gives
We need its light, we need its heat, we need its energy
Without the sun, without a doubt, there’d be no you and me
The sun is mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees
The sun is hot
It is so hot that everything on it is a gas
Iron, copper, aluminum and many others
The sun is large
If the sun were hollow, a million earths could fit inside
And yet the sun is still only a middle-sized star
The sun is far away
About 93,000,000 miles away, and that’s why it looks so small
And even when it’s out of sight, the sun shines night and day
The sun gives heat, the sun gives light, the sunlight that we see
The sunlight comes from our own sun’s atomic energy
Scientists have found that the sun is a huge atom-smashing machine
The heat and light of the sun come from the nuclear reactions
Of hydrogen,carbon, nitrogen and helium
The sun is mass of incandescent gas, a gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees

Cycle Song of Life

The river casts her murky eyes toward heaven
But never stops to doubt that she must roll out to the sea
And the secret of what takes her to her silence
Goes with her to her death beyond eternity

CHORUS
And the river just keeps flowin’ on and on
The sun keeps goin’ ’round to bring the dawn
And life just keeps on goin’ ’til it looks as though it’s gone
But it really just keeps flowin’ on and on

Just when it seems the night will last forever
The sun appears to kiss awake the darkness into day
And though his life is short, he makes the journey
And knows deep in his heart that there’s no other way

CHORUS

To understand the laughter of the Springtime
You have to see the summer melt away into the Fall
But ’til you’ve known the endless sleep of Winter
You’ll never hear the cycle song of life at all

CHORUS

NOTES

“The River Is Flowing” was a chant written in the 1970s by Sun Bear, a member of the Chippewa Tribe. He was born in the White Earth Reservation in the North of the United States on 31 August 1926 and died on 19 June 1992 at the age of 66 in Spokane, Washington. – Additional verses were added by E. Barrie Kavash in her 2005 novel “Sacred Cave” which is set in North America’s prehistoric southeast. Beginning as small stream, the river begins its journey from the hills, where water is so clean, cold and pure. Joined by other tributaries and keeps growing in size. Flowing over spillways, and getting calmer, keeps on flowing through the plains and ultimately ends journey into sea as sun goes below the horizon. It is the cycle of life. The population explosion and pollution has degraded our environment. The India and Pakistan has many beautiful rivers originating from Himalayas. The global warming is posing a continuous threat to the glaciers receding at alarming speed. Rivers are our source of Life. We must work together to keep them clean and protect them. The Song goes like this: The River is flowing Flowing and growing The River is flowing Back to the Sea Mother Earth carry me A Child I will always be Mother Earth carry me Back to the Sea
