Never Ever

“Never Ever”

A few questions that I need to know
How you could ever hurt me so
I need to know what I’ve done wrong
And how long it’s been going on

Was it that I never paid enough attention?
Or did I not give enough affection?
Not only will your answers keep me sane
But I’ll know never to make the same mistake again

You can tell me to my face
or even on the phone
You can write it in a letter,
Either way, I have to know

Did I never treat you right?
Did I always start the fight?
Either way, I’m going out of my mind
All the answers to my questions I have to find

My head’s spinning
Boy, I’m in a daze
I feel isolated
Don’t wanna communicate

I’ll take a shower
I will scour
I will rub
To find peace of mind
The happy mind I once owned

Flexing vocabulary runs right through me
The alphabet runs right from A to Z
Conversations, hesitations in my mind
You got my conscience asking questions that I can’t find

I’m not crazy
I’m sure I ain’t done nothing wrong, no
I’m just waiting ’cause I heard
That this feeling won’t last that long

Never ever have I ever felt so low
When you gonna take me out of this black hole?
Never ever have I ever felt so sad
The way I’m feeling yeah, you got me feeling really bad

Never ever have I had to find
I’ve had to dig away to find my own peace of mind
I’ve never ever had my conscience to fight
The way I’m feeling, yeah, I just don’t feel right

I’ll keep searching
Deep within my soul
For all the answers
Don’t wanna hurt no more

I need peace
Got to feel at ease
Need to be free from pain
Going insane
My heart aches, yeah

Sometimes vocabulary runs through my head
The alphabet runs right from A to Zed
Conversations, hesitations in my mind
You got my conscience asking questions that I can’t find

I’m not crazy,
I’m sure I ain’t done nothing wrong
And now I’m just waiting
‘Cause I heard that this feeling won’t last that long

Never ever have I ever felt so low
When you gonna take me out of this black hole?
Never ever have I ever felt so sad
The way I’m feeling yeah, you got me feeling really bad

Never ever have I had to find
I’ve had to dig away to find my own peace of mind
I’ve never ever had my conscience to fight
The way I’m feeling, yeah, I just don’t feel right

Never ever have I ever felt so low
When you gonna take me out of this black hole?
Never ever have I ever felt so sad
The way I’m feeling yeah, you got me feeling really bad

Never ever have I had to find
I’ve had to dig away to find my own peace of mind
I’ve never ever had my conscience to fight
The way I’m feeling, yeah, I just don’t feel right

You can tell me to my face,
You can tell me on the phone,
Ooh — You can write it in a letter, babe
‘Cause I really need to know

You can write it in a letter, babe

NOTES

Want to use this in a UU sermon about lamentation prayer (a prayer for help coming out of pain).  How would a UU use/access this best?

Fire, Water, Earth and Air

(Jane)

Fire shine on me
show me the way to a better day.
Water cools me down
so that I can see the way.

Fire, Water, Earth and Air,
come together in my soul
And when you hear me wait for my sign
And I leave for a better time.

Can you hear me, can hear me
Can you hear me, can hear me

Can you hear me, can hear me
Can you hear me, can hear me

You’re the light that fills me up.
You burning me like fire
Fills my senses, fills my mind.
Your worlds can take me higher

Higher and higher
bring me to mystery love.
You are the sun
that fills the room with light
You give me the flame
that turns me insane
Burns my hand like fire
let me be a piece of you.
And I will give you my desire
And you give me some,
some sweet loving, every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
You give me some sweet loving every day.
I see them.
I hear them
They coming.
They slowing
Keep on… Keep on Rolling

The Bonny Swans

(Traditional as interpreted by Loreena McKennitt)

(Lyrics in parentheses are in between every verse of the song.)

A farmer there lived in the north country
(A hey ho and me bonny girl)
And he had daughters one, two, three
(The swans swim so bonny o)
These daughters they walked by the river’s brim
(A hey ho and me bonny girl)
The eldest pushed the youngest in
(The swans swim so bonny o)

Oh sister, oh sister, pray lend me your hand
And I will give you house and land
I’ll give you neither hand nor glove
Unless you give me your own true love

Sometimes she sank, sometimes she swam
Until she came to a miller’s dam
The miller’s daughter, dressed in red
She went for some water to make some bread

Oh father, oh daddy, here swims a swan
It’s very like a gentle woman
They laid her on the bank to dry
There came a harper passing by

He made harp pins of her fingers fair
He made harp strings of her golden hair
He made a harp of her breast bone
And straight it began to play alone

He brought it to her father’s hall
And there was the court, assembled all
He laid the harp upon a stone
And straight it began to play alone

And there does sit my father the King
And yonder sits my mother the Queen
And there does sit my brother Hugh
And by him William, sweet and true
And there does sit my false sister, Anne
Who drowned me for the sake of a man

Hymn to Her

(Written by Meg Keene)
Let me inside you
Into your room
I’ve heard it’s lined
With the things you don’t show
Lay me beside you
Down on the floor
I’ve been your lover
From the womb to the tomb
I dress as your daughter
When the moon becomes round
You be my mother
When everything’s goneAnd she will always carry on
Something is lost
But something is found
They will keep on speaking her name
Somethings change
Some stay the same

Keep beckoning to me
From behind that closed door
The maid and the mother
And the crone that’s grown old

I hear your voice
Coming out of that hole
I listen to you
And I want some more
I listen to you
And I want some more

And she will always carry on
Something is lost
But something is found
They will keep on speaking her name
Some things change
Some stay the same
